March 6, 2022

In response to the feedback from the AMSPDC DEI workshop in March, 2021, the DEI Committee surveyed the AMSPDC membership.  Out of 158 chairs surveyed, we received 40 complete responses as of February, 2022.  The results from this survey helped create the below dashboard to address areas of opportunity for improvement and innovation across pediatric departments. Ultimately, the goal is to begin to give AMSPDC a way to share outcomes and progress in the field of Pediatrics.  This is just the beginning.

In our survey, when we utilized the term “Underrepresented in medicine”, we took our definition from AAMC which states: “Underrepresented in medicine means those racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population.” This currently includes individuals who identify as African Americans and/or Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native American (American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians), Pacific Islander, and mainland Puerto Rican. The definition also refers to individuals who come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

We look forward to bringing full inclusion, diversity, equity, and anti-racist actions to the field of Pediatrics.
