2022 Results
Overview
The DEI AMSPDC committee continues to bring up-to-date useful information to our members regarding DEI policies and efforts occurring across the membership. In 2022 the DEI committee surveyed the membership hoping for increased participation in the process and to ask straightforward questions that can help inform where our toolkit needs to focus in its development. Out of 158 chairs surveyed we received 66 completed responses, over half of the membership. The results from this survey helped us to update and deepen the information that can be found on our dashboard outlining important areas in Departments that highlight Diversity Equity and Inclusion. The responses give a snapshot displaying where AMSPDC members can find opportunities for improvement and innovation as all work toward a stronger and more effective way to meet our mission to improve the health and wellbeing of children, develop the pediatric clinicians and researchers of tomorrow working in environments where goals can be met with a thriving well represented and diverse faculty.
In our survey, when we utilized the term “Underrepresented in medicine”, we took our definition from AAMC which states: “Underrepresented in medicine means those racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population.” This currently includes individuals who identify as African Americans and/or Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native American (American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians), Pacific Islander, and mainland Puerto Rican. The definition also refers to individuals who come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
We look forward to bringing full inclusion, diversity, equity, and anti-racist actions to the field of Pediatrics. It is only then we will be able to achieve our mission and goals with excellence.

2021 Results
Overview
In response to the feedback from the AMSPDC DEI workshop in March, 2021, the DEI Committee surveyed the AMSPDC membership. Out of 158 chairs surveyed, we received 40 complete responses as of February, 2022. The results from this survey helped create the below dashboard to address areas of opportunity for improvement and innovation across pediatric departments. Ultimately, the goal is to begin to give AMSPDC a way to share outcomes and progress in the field of Pediatrics. This is just the beginning.
