The AMSPDC Pediatrics Workforce Initiative works with national partners to strengthen pediatric physician–scientist training pathways, advance shared approaches to competency development, and improve understanding of the investments needed to sustain the child health research workforce.

This article highlights gaps in federal investment in child health research and calls for clearer reporting on support for pediatric physician–scientist training and workforce development. Its findings can be used to strengthen local advocacy and raise awareness of persistent funding disparities.

National Pediatric Scientist Collaborative Workgroup
The AMSPDC Pediatrics Workforce Initiative is collaborating with the National Pediatric Scientist Collaborative Workgroup (NPSCW) to develop a framework for clear, consistent, and widely adopted pediatric research competencies across residency and fellowship training. The framework is intended to create shared accountability among trainees, mentors, and programs.

Pediatric Scientist Development Program
The Pediatric Scientist Development Program (PSDP) is an NIH K12- and philanthropically funded program that prepares early-career faculty for research careers in academic pediatrics through three years of intensive training, mentorship, and career development across basic, translational, clinical, and health services research.
Frontiers in Science
Frontiers in Science introduces pediatric residents to research and academic career pathways through engagement with leading investigators, peers, PSDP fellows, and pediatric department chairs, helping inspire and support the next generation of pediatric physician–scientists.
