Clerkship Exposure

Strengthening pediatric clerkship experiences by providing educators with consensus-based best-practice guidance on clerkship structure, learning environment, curriculum, assessment, and pediatric career exploration.

The Clerkship Exposure Workgroup of the AMSPDC Pediatrics Workforce Initiative Education Pillar developed these Best Practice Guidelines for Pediatric Clerkships to support medical schools in creating high-quality pediatric clinical experiences. Developed through a collaborative, consensus-driven process involving pediatric clerkship educators from ten institutions and informed by COMSEP survey data, relevant literature, stakeholder feedback, and student perspectives, the guidelines address clerkship goals, structure and duration, learning environment, content and assessment, and pediatric career exploration. Together, they provide practical guidance for clerkship directors, educators, and departmental leaders seeking to strengthen pediatric education and exposure.
